Coca-Cola stops funding animal testing

Coke are following Pepsi and will stop paying for animal experimentation.
I think like their cola rivals this is more of a PR/marketing move than an ethical one, but it’s all good.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Coca-Cola Co. will no longer fund or conduct animal experiments, animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said on Thursday.
The beverage giant joins rival PepsiCo Inc. which made the same move earlier this month.
Coke does not conduct animal tests and does not directly fund animal tests on its beverages, and is asking its partners and research organizations to use alternatives to animal testing, the company said in a letter provided by PETA.
“Pepsi’s announcement helped to spur Coke along,” said Bruce Friedrich, a vice president of PETA. Coca-Cola could not immediately be reached for comment.
PETA, whose campaign to change practices at Coke and Pepsi lasted about a year, said it would now target consumer products giants Altria Group.
“They’re two of the worst abusers,” Friedrich said. “we will be stepping up our pressure.”
Neither Altria nor Unilever immediately returned calls seeking comment.
Still wouldn’t drink the gut rotting stuff.

Coca-Cola companies are disgusting! I have banned your product and I hope your comany rots like the animals had to suffer, you animal-hating pigs! I told all my friends about your products awhile ago when I first found out! Piss on you and your screwed up pigist company!

If only they would stop killing Columbian trade unionists too. Great they’ve stopped animal testing but I hope this doesn’t mean people will start drinking the stuff. There is a boycott call against the company over what they’re doing in Columbia, see killercoke.org
