- Vegan Drinks Manchester

Details of a regular New Event for Manchester

After hearing about the fabulous Vegan Drinks meet ups in the States and the success of the London one we figured Manchester should be next! So what is vegan drinks? Well, it’s a relaxed social event and a chance to hang out in a vegan friendly bar meeting interesting folks. The event is free and people will purchase on the night any food or drinks they wish to have. Please feel free to bring any leaflets or cards for events or causes related to animal or veg*n issues you wish to promote for our leaflet table. And, as lots of you are creative types we don’t mind you advertising your Etsy shops or gigs etc. If you run a business and want to bring along any free samples of vegan friendly stuff that’s cool too!

The first Manchester Vegan Drinks is on Wednesday 18 January from 6.30pm. It will be held at Bakerie on Lever Street in the Northern Quarter. You don’t have to be vegan to come along, non vegans are very welcome but we would ask that you respect that most attendees are vegan and refrain from eating and drinking non vegan while at Vegan Drinks. See you there!

…is taking place at the magnificent Worsley Court House (J13 off M60) and includes an evening of live entertainment, 2 course hot supper buffet, DJ and late bar – all for just £17.50 per person (seating is available in tables of 6 or 7).

All monies raised will go directly to caring for the animals in our care, 98% of which have been rescued by RSPCA inspectors.

The event is themed on black cats, as these are the hardest cats to rehome and usually wait months to be adopted, all because of their colour. So, in celebration of these beatuful creatures we are holding the event in their honour!

It’s easy to purchase tickets, all you need to do is contact us via email or 0161 8820680 and we will offer you different, easy payment options.

We really hope you can make it to the ‘black cat ball’ and hope to hear from you all very soon.

Very best wishes and thank you for your time,

National Vegetarian Week: Mon 23rd – Sun 29th May 2011

This National Vegetarian Week (2011), sponsored by Cauldron Foods, invite friends and family around the kitchen table to tuck into seven tremendously tasty and daringly different dishes. They’re different because they’re free from meat but full of flavour and sure to please. Try the Big, Bad Boy Salad, Sweet Potato Burger with Griddled Pineapple and a Chilli Salsa, or how about the stacked high Sandwich Heaven?

The recipes are part of the Vegetarian Society’s brand new Going Veggie guide and National Vegetarian Week is a great time to grab a copy. It’s a friendly and easy to read resource for going, and staying, vegetarian, packed with information such as how to take the first steps, doing the big shop as a veggie and pesky non-vegetarian ingredients to watch out for. Order your copy online at www.nationalvegetarianweek.org or call 0161 925 2000.

If you want to build on your veggie options at home then Cauldron Foods have delightful and delicious dishes to try – Sweet Potato and Chilli Marinated Tofu Parcels, Red Cooked Marinated Tofu or a scrumptious Tofu, Chocolate and Hazelnut Mousse – all available online at www.nationalvegetarianweek.org

National Vegetarian Week from 23 to 29 May isn’t just for the home. There’ll be restaurants, caterers and retailers chipping in and you can catch up with what’s going around the UK by visiting the National Vegetarian Week website What’s Happening calendar.

Get involved in National Vegetarian Week by attending an event, tasting or trying one of the many mouth-watering recipes on offer. How about organising a Come Dine at Mine event or doing something silly to raise a few funds for the Vegetarian Society’s charitable projects? Whatever you do, get involved and tuck into a tasty seven days.

APRIL 22ND – EARTH DAY

The Earth Day Network has launched a Facebook application designed to engage people on the issue of climate change and attract support for their A Billion Acts of Green campaign.

Earth Day is held every April 22 around the world and aims to raise awareness of climate change and environmental issues.

The event first began in America in 1970 and since then has grown into a global event. In celebration of Earth Day, individuals, communities and officials and even businesses around the world hold a variety of events; this year the campaign aims to collect a pledges for A Billion Acts of Green, which the organizers then intend to present at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro in June 2012.

Any individual or business can make a pledge. If you are interested in contributing to the campaign, make a pledge through the Facebook application:

http://apps.facebook.com/billionactsofgreen/

WASHINGTON, DC – (Washington, D.C. April 19, 2011)
“Earth Day Network today announced a collaboration with Facebook to engage people worldwide in environmental action through the Billion Acts of Green® campaign. The two organizations worked together to create a new application or “app” that is inspiring people around the world to take actions to reduce their impact on the environment.

“Earth Day Network’s collaboration with Facebook on the app takes advantage of two global platforms: Facebook’s social network and Earth Day, the largest platform for environmental action,” said Kathleen Rogers, President and CEO of Earth Day Network (EDN). “This effort is founded on the shared belief that to achieve real progress on today’s immense environmental challenges we must act together. Facebook defines togetherness in the digital age, and has the unique ability to take a positive message and propel it across cultural, national, and religious divides. That’s what Earth Day is all about too.”

“Facebook’s partnership with Earth Day Network to create and promote the Billion Acts of Green app is an exciting way to harness the Facebook platform’s power and reach on behalf of the environment,” said Jonathan Heiliger, V.P. of Technical Operations at Facebook. “Whether pledging to save energy, use less water, use alternative transportation, or take other steps, people can use Facebook to mark Earth Day with meaningful action – and can encourage their friends to do the same. This will help Earth Day Network achieve its ‘Billion Acts of Green’ goal.”

‘ART OF LIVING’ HELPING PEOPLE BREATHE MORE EASILY

BEATLES AND DAILY TOIL INSPIRED DALIP

A global movement responsible for changing the mindset of the likes of ex-militants in India through the benefits of meditation and breathing is growing in Liverpool thanks to the ambitions of Dalip Matta.

Art of Living, founded by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, is steeped in spiritual traditions and has become one of India’s most visible exports.

Now Dalip is backing an event to have the same wholesome effect on stressed out people in the city following the economic downturn.

“It’s hard to estimate how many people are now interested in Indian spirituality,” says Dalip Matta, organiser of the Art of Living’s free sampler event being held from 7pm to 9pm in Blackburne House on Wednesday April 20th, 2011.

“Perhaps the stunning growth of yoga is one indicator,” points out Matta. “In the U.S. for example, almost 16 million people practise, spending around $6bn a year on classes, equipment retreats, clothing and yoga-related media.”

“It’s spiritual fast-food if you like,” says the Indian-born 37 year old, who arrived in Liverpool aged 6 and comes from a family of grocers who have a store, Matta’s in Bold Street, Liverpool City Centre.

Dalip was attracted to the Art of Living after becoming embroiled in the relentless toil of helping to run the business.

“I’m a big Beatles fan and read about Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s devotion to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, a globetrotting guru who developed the transcendental meditation technique that famously attracted the Beatles.

“Shankar offers a breathing technique, the Sudarshan Kriya, his own version of the Pranayama techniques practised by Hindus for centuries as a path to meditation.

“For me, The Art of Living has helped me to become more relaxed amongst the stresses of running a successful family business and I’d recommend it to anyone.”

Matta is now spreading the message to people across the city in the belief that the pressures of everyday life may swell numbers further based on encouraging bookings for the two hour event that includes an insight into The Art of Living, yoga, meditation and the chance to meet like-minded individuals.

“It’s just a sampler and a pre-cursor to an Art of Living weekend course on breathing techniques that we’re staging at the Liverpool Wellbeing & Yoga Centre in Hope Street, Liverpool on May 20th-23rd.”

Dalip is also travelling to Berlin in July to celebrate 30 years of the Art of Living at the World Culture Festival with more weekend courses in Liverpool planned prior in the build up to the big anniversary.

http://www.artofliving.org/uk-en

Editors Note:

May’s weekend course is priced at £250 that entitles one person to bring a friend or family for free. Timings are as follows:

May 20 – 6pm-10pm
May 21 – 10am – 5.45pm
May 22 – 10am – 5.45pm
May 23 – 6pm – 10pm

Guest list for the sampler evening and enquiries about the weekend course are available from Dalip Matta via dalip_matta@yahoo.com

Media enquiries should be directed to Joel Jelen, Ubiquity pr, joel@ubiquitypr.co.uk 0151 703 0917 / 07710 436 125.
