Not everybody is enamoured with the World Cup, so for those of you looking for other interest here are a selected few events taking place in Liverpool this month:
Sat 10 June to Sun 11 June – Liverpool48 – Film-making Challenge
Over the weekend of the 10th & 11th June 2006, Liverpool48.com are offering you the chance to participate in the city’s first 48 hour film making challenge.
Teams from all over the world will compete to see who can make the best short film and win prizes worth thousands of pounds.
Your work will be judged by a panel of leading industry figures as well as the general public, who will get an opportunity to view the completed films both online and at selected screenings throughout the city.
Devised to coincide with Liverpool’s Downtown Week, the voting will run throughout the week and culminate in an awards evening for the best films at a leading downtown Liverpool location.

Sun 11 June to Sun 18 June – Downtown Week 2006
Downtown Week is a celebration of everything that is best about Liverpool and its people. Now is a truly exhilarating time to check it out, you’ll be amazed at the many changes taking place. New apartments, new buildings, new shops, bars and restaurants and, of course, ever more culture… a real urban experience,… So, whether you enjoy shopping, the theatre, music, nightclubs or history, come downtown during the week and take advantage of the huge variety of things there are to do and see during Downtown Week!
Downtown Week is a not for profit promotional initiative, co-ordinated by a voluntary group of downtown businesses

Sat 17 June – Living Market @ 52 Roscoe Street
There will be a ‘Living Market’ at 52 Roscoe St:
– Stalls from local artists and makers (ceramics, glassware, drawing and painting, photography, textiles, recycled products),
– A buskers stage, with live music from local talents,
– A chance to make your own badges!
– Fresh fruit smoothies, fair trade tea and coffee, home made cakes and savouries.
– Free entry – and a free cup of fair trade coffee for every visitor, courtesy of Bellews Coffee.
There will be another Living Market on 22nd July.

Wed 21 June – Liverpool Friends of the Earth meeting
Friendly, informal meeting of Liverpool’s local Friends of the Earth group. Past campaigns have included local regeneration, climate change and transport. Open to all!
