UNWANTED dogs at a Huyton rehoming centre are getting into the Valentine’s spirit in a bid to find their perfect match.

The centre, on Whiston Lane, has been packed with unwanted dogs since New Year and now volunteers are offering special treats for those willing to provide a loving home.

There are more than 100 dogs at Huyton and every pup who is adopted will take home a heart-shaped balloon and bottle of wine donated by Asda as a special treat for their new owners.

Nicole McIlveen, supporter relations officer at Dog’s Trust Merseyside, said: “The New Year is always a busy time for us and this year we have been even more busy than usual.

“There are a number of dogs who have been with us for months and desperately need a new home.

“We hope that by getting into the Valentine’s spirit they will find the loving home they deserve.”
