HEALTH workers are handing out herbs to stop people eating salt.

They hope people will grow the pots of basil, coriander and parsley then add them to food instead.

The Heart of Mersey charity is handing out the herbs at venues across Merseyside.

The campaign, with a budget of £3,000, aims to tell people to check the salt content of ready meals and processed foods like baked beans and pizzas.

Alongside the pots of herbs were appropriate recipes and tips on how to cut down on salt.

Today (Friday) Heart of Mersey was in Halton Lea Shopping Centre at 10.30am. Tomorrow (Sat 28th) the roadshow is at Garston Market at 10am and Kirkby Market at noon. Sponsors are primary care trusts and the Food Standards Agency.
