BIRKENHEAD MP Frank Field has launched a bid to help save the planet.
The former welfare minister wants people to sponsor acres of the South American rainforest to prevent logging and cattle ranching which boosts global warming.
He has “bought†several tracts for between £70 and £90 an acre and wants others to do the same.
New charity Cool Earth is the brainchild of Mr Field and Anglo-Swedish sports goods magnate Johan Eliasch who has bought 400,000 acres of rainforest in Brazil.
