Small animal hospital is unveiled
A state-of-the-art hospital where budding vets can learn how to treat small animals has opened.
The £10m teaching hospital at Leahurst, Wirral, will be used to train students on the University of Liverpool’s Veterinary Science degree programme.
The 86-room hospital includes MRI and CT scanning facilities, a keyhole surgery theatre, a radiotherapy unit and digital X-ray technology.
Up to 72 animals can be treated at the hospital on an in-patient basis.
The hospital has been funded by the University’s Veterinary Development campaign.
Professor Sandy Trees, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, said: “These new facilities will enable Liverpool to provide world-class clinical treatment for cats and dogs.
“It will also support a programme of research projects into diseases affecting small animals.”
