When I think of tapas the old favourites come to mind, Patatas Bravas, bead and olives, bruschetta etc. However, the very clever and talented folk at Veggie Republic, have come up with not just the usual favourites but a range of dishes across a number of different themes and flavours on their new menu. These range from the Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Indian, Pan Asian, Pan American and raw salads plus delicious desserts.

We opted for Arancini which was a delightful dish of red lentil and saffron rice balls on a bed of creamed sauce. ‘Calamari’ with a gorgeous lemon aioli. Moroccan ‘Meatball’s in a rich tomato sauce. Tomato and pomegranate salad which was a favourite of mine with the vegan feta cheese.

Wanting to try contrasting flavours we also had the Jackfruit KI Sabzi which was delicious and spicy. Lastly, we also opted for the ‘chicken’ onigiri which was Japanese rice balls stuffed with ‘chicken’, spring onions and chillies wrapped in a nori and sesame soy dipping sauce.

Thankfully we did leave some room for dessert! We shared a New York cheesecake and a Chocolate Brownie which were sublime.

We were very pleased with our choice of dishes and are eager to go back again as there are so many options. Next time, we will be trying the Sesame Crusted Satay Tofu, the Korean Sticky Cauli Wings, the Kachumber Salad and the Salt and Pepper Jackfruit.

The meal was washed down with a beautiful bottle of vegan wine, this is one of the bonuses of going to an all vegan restaurant, not only are you guaranteed no cross contamination with meat, but there is a plenitude of fine vegan alcoholic beverages to choose from!

Not only is Veggie Republic all vegan, there is a vast amount of gluten free options to choose from, a great selection of wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks. So something to cater for everyone.

If you haven’t ventured to Veggie Republic it is housed in a beautiful listed building which was first built in 1866 by Peter Ellis, nicely situated in the centre of Liverpool, but almost away from the hustle and bustle of the main street then you must give it a try. Whether you fancy a romantic candle lit dinner with your other half or a night out with a group of friends or family, there is always a warm welcome by the friendly staff.

Let them take you on a tasty tantalising journey.
